🔹 LEVEL B2 – CHỦ ĐIỂM 32: NOMINALIZATION (DANH HÓA – CHUYỂN ĐỘNG TỪ / TÍNH TỪ → DANH TỪ)

Nominalization (danh hóa) là quá trình chuyển động từ hoặc tính từ thành danh từ để tạo ra văn phong học thuật, trang trọng và khách quan hơn. 👉 Kỹ năng này rất quan trọng trong Academic Writing (IELTS, TOEFL, Writing B2–C1), giúp câu văn ngắn gọn, súc tích và mang tính khái quát cao hơn.

1️⃣ KHÁI NIỆM

Trong tiếng Anh, danh hóa là việc biến một hành động (verb) hoặc tính chất (adjective) thành danh từ (noun).

Ví dụ:

• Verb → Noun: decide → decision, develop → development
• Adjective → Noun: strong → strength, possible → possibility

Khi danh hóa, câu chuyển từ dạng “hành động cụ thể” sang “ý tưởng / khái niệm trừu tượng”, giúp văn viết mang tính học thuật và chuyên nghiệp hơn.

Ví dụ chuyển đổi:

• Before: Scientists discovered a new planet. After: The discovery of a new planet was announced by scientists.
• Before: The company improved its service. After: The company made an improvement in its service.

2️⃣ LỢI ÍCH CỦA NOMINALIZATION

• ✅ Tạo phong cách học thuật và khách quan (formal & academic tone).
• ✅ Giúp câu ngắn gọn, tránh lặp động từ.
• ✅ Cho phép sử dụng bị động hoặc cấu trúc danh từ phức tạp.
• ✅ Thích hợp trong writing formal như reports, essays, research papers.

• People decided to expand the company. → The decision to expand the company was made.
• They analyzed the data carefully. → Their analysis of the data was careful.

3️⃣ CÁC HẬU TỐ THƯỜNG DÙNG TRONG DANH HÓA

4️⃣ CÁCH CHUYỂN CÂU SANG DẠNG DANH HÓA

👉 Nguyên tắc: Xác định động từ / tính từ chính → chuyển sang danh từ → sắp xếp lại cấu trúc câu.

5️⃣ CÁCH SỬ DỤNG NOMINALIZATION TRONG WRITING HỌC THUẬT

6️⃣ DANH HÓA GIÚP VIẾT CÂU PHỨC HƠN

Ví dụ 1:

Before: The government failed to act quickly. This led to public anger.
After: The government’s failure to act quickly led to public anger.

Ví dụ 2:

Before: People are concerned because pollution is increasing.
After: People’s concern about the increase in pollution is growing.

Ví dụ 3:

Before: The company wants to expand its market internationally.
After: The company’s intention to expand its international market shows its ambition.

7️⃣ BÀI TẬP THỰC HÀNH

1. They improved their service. → Their improvement in service attracted more customers.
2. The team failed to win the match. → The team’s failure disappointed the fans.
3. Scientists developed a new vaccine. → The development of a new vaccine saved lives.
4. People are concerned because prices are rising. → People’s concern about the rise in prices is increasing.
5. The company decided to reduce costs. → The decision to reduce costs was necessary.

8️⃣ GHI NHỚ NHANH

• ✅ Verb → Noun: decide → decision / improve → improvement / analyze → analysis
• ✅ Adjective → Noun: strong → strength / happy → happiness / possible → possibility
• ✅ Dùng nominalization để làm câu khách quan hơn, đặc biệt trong văn viết formal.
• ⚠️ Tránh lạm dụng – nếu quá nhiều danh từ, câu sẽ trở nên nặng nề và khó hiểu.
