🔹 LEVEL B2 – CHỦ ĐIỂM 15: LINKING WORDS & CONJUNCTIONS (LIÊN TỪ & CỤM TỪ NỐI – NỐI CÂU TRONG NÓI & VIẾT HỌC THUẬT)

Linking Words và Conjunctions là các từ hoặc cụm từ dùng để liên kết câu, đoạn văn, và ý tưởng lại với nhau một cách mạch lạc. Chúng giúp văn nói và văn viết trở nên logic, tự nhiên và chuyên nghiệp hơn, đặc biệt trong IELTS Writing & Speaking Band 6.5+.

1️⃣ PHÂN LOẠI CHÍNH

Các liên từ và cụm từ nối thường được chia theo chức năng ngữ nghĩa:

Nhóm chức năng	Linking Words / Conjunctions	Ví dụ
Thêm ý (Addition)	and, also, moreover, furthermore, in addition, besides, what’s more	She is smart, and she is kind. Moreover, she’s hardworking.
Tương phản (Contrast)	but, however, although, though, even though, while, whereas, on the other hand, in contrast	Although he’s rich, he’s not happy. He’s friendly; however, he’s lazy.
Nguyên nhân – Kết quả (Cause & Effect)	because, since, as, therefore, thus, consequently, as a result, hence	We stayed home because it rained. It rained; therefore, we stayed home.
So sánh (Comparison)	like, similarly, likewise, as ... as, just as	Similarly, younger people prefer social media to TV.
Nhượng bộ (Concession)	although, even though, though, despite, in spite of, nevertheless, nonetheless	Despite the rain, they went out. Nevertheless, the project succeeded.
Điều kiện (Condition)	if, unless, as long as, provided that, in case	If you study hard, you’ll pass the test.
Mục đích (Purpose)	so that, in order to, to, for the purpose of	He spoke loudly so that everyone could hear him.
Kết luận / Tổng kết (Conclusion / Summary)	in conclusion, to sum up, in summary, all in all, overall	In conclusion, technology has improved our lives.
Trình tự / Thời gian (Sequence / Time)	first, then, next, after that, finally, meanwhile, afterwards	First, mix the ingredients. Then, bake for 20 minutes.
Nhấn mạnh (Emphasis)	indeed, in fact, certainly, obviously, above all	Indeed, this is one of the best examples of teamwork.
Ví dụ / Minh họa (Example)	for example, for instance, such as, namely	For example, many people now work remotely.

2️⃣ PHÂN BIỆT: CONJUNCTIONS vs CONNECTORS

Loại	Vị trí trong câu	Ví dụ
Conjunctions (Liên từ) dùng nối 2 mệnh đề trong cùng 1 câu	Giữa 2 mệnh đề	I stayed home because it was raining.
Connectors (Từ nối) dùng nối 2 câu riêng biệt	Đầu câu thứ hai (có dấu “,”)	It was raining. Therefore, I stayed home.

3️⃣ LIÊN TỪ GHÉP (Correlative Conjunctions)

Liên từ ghép là các cặp từ được dùng cùng nhau để kết nối các thành phần tương đương:

Liên từ ghép	Nghĩa	Ví dụ
both ... and	cả ... và ...	Both my mother and my father are teachers.
either ... or	hoặc ... hoặc ...	You can have either tea or coffee.
neither ... nor	không ... cũng không ...	Neither Tom nor Anna came to the party.
not only ... but also	không những ... mà còn ...	She’s not only intelligent but also kind.
whether ... or	dù ... hay ...	Whether you like it or not, you must go.

4️⃣ LIÊN TỪ / TỪ NỐI PHỔ BIẾN TRONG VIẾT HỌC THUẬT (Academic Writing)

Chức năng	Từ / Cụm từ học thuật	Ví dụ
Bổ sung ý	moreover, furthermore, in addition, what is more	Furthermore, global warming affects every continent.
Chuyển ý / Tương phản	however, nevertheless, nonetheless, on the other hand	However, this solution is not sustainable.
Nguyên nhân – Kết quả	therefore, thus, consequently, as a result	It rained heavily; consequently, the match was canceled.
Nhấn mạnh	indeed, clearly, evidently, undoubtedly	Indeed, this innovation changed modern communication.

5️⃣ MINI PRACTICE – CHỌN TỪ NỐI PHÙ HỢP

1. She is very talented. ______, she’s also humble. → Moreover

3. He was late. ______, the meeting had already started. → By the time
4. We missed the train; ______, we took a taxi. → therefore
5. ______ being tired, she continued working. → Despite

💡 MẸO GHI NHỚ NHANH

• ✅ Dùng and / but / or để nối ý đơn giản (informal, nói thường ngày).
• ✅ Dùng however / therefore / moreover trong văn viết học thuật (formal).
• ✅ Không dùng dấu phẩy sau although / because khi ở giữa câu.
• ✅ Không dùng “so” đầu câu trong writing formal → thay bằng therefore / thus / consequently.
• ✅ “In conclusion / To sum up” chỉ nên dùng 1 lần – ở đoạn kết luận.
• ✅ However đi giữa 2 câu, không dùng trong cùng 1 mệnh đề như “but”.

6️⃣ CẤU TRÚC GỢI Ý CHO IELTS WRITING TASK 2

• Nguyên nhân: This happens because / since / due to...
• Kết quả: As a result, ... / Therefore, ...
• Thêm ý: Furthermore, ... / In addition, ...
• Đưa ví dụ: For example, ... / For instance, ...
• Tương phản: However, ... / On the other hand, ...
• Kết luận: To conclude, ... / In summary, ...
